SPS Annual Statistics Release for 2022

In 2022, our prisons remained safe and secure. A safe prison allows the smooth conduct of the rehabilitation programmes and services by our staff, community partners and volunteers. The two-year recidivism rate of inmates released in 2020 release cohort remained low and stable at about 20%.

In order to promote long-term desistance, the Singapore Prison Service (SPS) and Yellow Ribbon Singapore (YRSG) continue to partner with community partners and volunteers. The partnership between various community partners provides structured support for inmates, such as the Throughcare Volunteer Framework and the upcoming Desistor Network.

By galvanising the community to strengthen support for ex-offenders and their families, we can create an inclusive society for second chances, break the cycle of re-offending, and intergenerational offending.
