Joint SPS YRSG Statement for YRPR
Singapore, 4 September 2024 - The Singapore Prison Service (SPS) and the Yellow Ribbon Singapore (YRSG) are aware of the feedback on the Yellow Ribbon Prison Run held on 1 September 2024. We are grateful that a record number of about 11,000 participants turned up for the Yellow Ribbon Prison Run to show their support for the Yellow Ribbon cause this year.
We strive to provide a good experience for all participants taking part in the Yellow Ribbon Prison Run every year. This year, in addition to the usual pick-up point at the Singapore EXPO bus-stop, we also provided complimentary shuttle services from Our Tampines Hub, and various ActiveSG Stadiums, for the convenience of more participants to get to the event’s start point. We had also increased the frequency of shuttle buses from Our Tampines Hub and Singapore EXPO to reduce participants’ waiting time for the shuttle services. However, we understand that some participants were inconvenienced by the heavy traffic and service gaps in the shuttle services, and were thus unable to start their run events at the respective flag-off timings.
We are also aware that there was some congestion at the carnival entrance/exit point at about 9.15am due to participants leaving and entering at the same time. We had immediately re-deployed volunteers to guide participants to the baggage collection point and helped to expedite the distribution of medals to them. The crowd at the carnival entrance/exit point eased by about 9.40am.
We would like to thank participants for their feedback and will review the organisation of this year’s run, and identify measures to improve the experience of the next Yellow Ribbon Prison Run.
SPS and YRSG would also like to take this opportunity to express our deepest appreciation to all participants, who turned up to show their support for second chances to inmates and ex-offenders. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to some participants, and are committed to providing a better experience for future Yellow Ribbon Prison Runs.
